Duran Duran - Planet Earth

Classic Song Of The Day

Reuben Raj

Planet Earth was the debut single by the English pop band Duran Duran, released on 2 February 1981 and was an immediate hit for the band in the UK and abroad.

The track was recorded at Red Bus Studios in London and released on EMI

The music video for the song was directed by Australian film director Russell Mulcahy, who would go on to direct a dozen more for the group. The video features the band dressed in New Romantic fashion and a cameo by Steve Strange. The somewhat 'cheesy' video effects and cut scenes were revolutionary at the time and instigated a new MTV pop culture.

Plant Earth was the song that would launch Duran Duran to instant stardom where they played a major role in shaping pop music and fashion in the 80s before reinventing themselves again in the early 2000s.
