Auckland band Imperfect Offering is presenting a full programme of Leonard Cohen songs in Auckland, Wellington and Nelson in October and November. Cohen’s work has often provided solace in troubled times and he even predicted the extremities of the Trump era and unfolding world difficulties:
"Everybody knows that the plague is coming, everybody knows that it’s moving fast…" (Leonard Cohen’s I’m Your Man album 1988)
Imperfect Offering is an acclaimed nine-piece band presenting the authentic Cohen sound with loving attention and musicianship, including five vocalists and even violin. In 2018 and 2019 they performed in sold-out shows including Ascension Wine Estate, Q Theatre Auckland, St Andrews-on-the Terrace Wellington, MTG Century Theatre Napier and the Concert Chamber of Auckland Town Hall.
For Wellington and Nelson, the band present an acclaimed programme focussing on Cohen’s life journey through his music on his first album Songs of Leonard Cohen in 1967 to his last album You Want it Darker released just weeks before his death in 2016. With a story that spans from a Jewish upbringing in Montreal, through Greek Island life with his muse Marianne to New York’s hang-out Chelsea Hotel.
For Auckland, their home audience, Imperfect Offering present "Thanks for the Dance" with breathtaking songs from Cohen's final and posthumous albums.
A selection of the bard's best songs will be presented in all venues including the astonishing “Hallelujah”, “Suzanne”, “Chelsea Hotel”, “The Future”, “Bird on the Wire” and songs from Cohen's extraordinary last album You Want it Darker.
