New Music

Monsta Marty From Melbourne is unlocked but still masked

Marty Blackmore

We are out of lockdown in Melbourne! It’s party time, the sun is shining, people are smiling, still talking through masks….still no live music but venues can start preparing for limited numbers….

 So we keep listening….

A new band to me, Front Country arrive with their new album  Impossible Dream which presents this talented group of 4 playing music in an Americana/roots/folk pop style, which is easy to listen to, with some impressive guitar and vocals work.

The band consists of Adam Roszkiewicz (mandolin, banjo, vocals), Jacob Groopman (guitar, rezo guitar, mandolin, vocals), Jeremy Darrow (Bass) and  Melody Walker (lead vocals, guitar, percussion) and pushes these genres into their own sound 'Roots Pop'

Originally from San Francisco, now based in Nashville, here’s perhaps the appropriate "Amerikan Dream" and "The Reckoning"

Now Country Lion from James Ellis and The Jealous Guys , is some American country music done in a refreshing Australian style (from Melbourne!), so we get classic honky tonk familiarity blended with James Ellis' distinctive vocals and lots of steel guitar, telecaster and lyrics like “My girlfriend at the time had just left Australia to live in Mexico and neither of us knew when she’d be back. I think she’s in Mexico now”.

This is a feel good album (all originals), for these times, comfortable, warm and bloody good! Produced by Margo Price's band members Micah Hulscher and Alex Munoz don’t let the word country put you off listening to "The Sun Will Rise Again"  and "Forever Close"

While we are on feel good music Sir Rod & The Blues Doctors are guitarist/percussionist Sterling Magee, harmonica player Adam Gussow and singer, dancer, and motivational speaker Sir Rod Patterson, with their highly recommended album Come Together.

This is wonderful high energy blues/soul music, terrific vocals and harmonica playing, featuring five covers (including James Brown, Ray CharlesHowlin' Wolf) and six originals.

Find it, play it loud now! Here’s the fabulous "I Want You" and "What’d I Say"

Now back to the party…..
