Here are Roger Bowie's picks for 2018!

Top 3 Favourite Albums in 2018:

Dawes - Passwords (HUB Records)

Another album of beautiful songs from Taylor Goldsmith, including my song of the year "Crack the Case".

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats – Tearing at the Seams (Fantasy)

Outstanding rock 'n' soul from Denver's ratbag, coming to Auckland in April 2019!

Jamie McDell - Extraordinary Girl (Jamie McDell)

An album which didn't do much for me on Spotify, but came alive off the CD. Produced in Nashville by Nash Chambers ( who told me he's especially proud of the outcome), the album also has cameos from Kasey and Bill Chambers. Go Jamie !!

Top 3 Fav Concerts in 2018:

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit  at the Powerstation on March 27th 2018

Jason Isbell was this year's star at the Americana Music Honours and Awards in Nashville, where he won three awards, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit ( minus wife Amanda Shires) put on a stunning show in Auckland.

Reb Fountain at the Tuning Fork on October 12th 2018

This show was part of the Southern Fork Americana Fest, Reb was sensational with a bunch of new songs, channeling Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Lucinda Williams, and of course Reb Fountain. Songs are being recorded, so can't wait for the new album...

David Byrne at Spark Arena on November 17th 2018

Reminiscent of the imaginative and groundbreaking "Stop Making Sense", Byrnes band of musicians came and went, without an amplifier in sight. All instruments were worn by the immaculately uniformed and barefoot musicians, and the Talking Heads classics were interspersed with the newer "American Utopia" songs. Outstanding !
