The Mutes (from mars) Share Under the Sea from Forthcoming EP

Free Concert at Grey Lynn RSC on August 26th

Roger Bowie

Started eight years ago by disability service provider A Supported Life, The Mutes (from mars) are New Zealand’s most unique rock band, made up of talented musicians with a range of social and learning disabilities, and their mentor and band leader Sam Benge, who also produces the band’s recordings.

Today, The Mutes (from mars) share Under the Sea the first single from their forthcoming live mini-EP, out on BigPop on 28 August.

The fantastical rock song tells the story of a mermaid who dreams of being with someone on land, and a land dweller who is aware of the mermaid, but is not convinced that living in her world is a good idea.

The Mutes (from mars) are:
Jared Barrington - Drums
Gabe Ashby - Drums
Gabriel Friedlander - Vocals, Keyboard
Lisa Hannam - Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboard
Jonathan Gill - Percussion, Harmonica
Sam Benge - Guitar, Backing Vocals

Under the Sea is a story of unrequited love,” says Gabriel Friedlander. “We want people to feel energised and excited by the thought of an unlikely love story.”
